Founder & Editor, Rest Timer Science

Max is a lifelong gym rat. He has spent years under the bar, training five times a week with an evidence-first mindset: read what the research actually says, apply it honestly in his own training, track what happens, and skip the bro-science shortcuts. His training spans the full range this site covers — heavy low-rep strength work, higher-rep hypertrophy blocks, and the accessory and conditioning work in between.

Rest between sets was the one variable he kept seeing lifters guess at, so he created the tool he wished he had. Rest Timer Science is the result — a free rest timer plus a set of calculators and plain-language guides that show why a given rest period works, grounded in published studies on ATP-PC recovery, hypertrophy, and strength.

He writes here as a dedicated lifter and self-researcher synthesizing the science, not as a certified trainer or physiologist. Every physiological figure on the site is attributed to published research, and nothing here is medical advice.

What Max writes about

  • Rest periods between sets and how they change with your goal
  • Training recovery and the ATP-PC, glycolytic, and aerobic energy systems
  • Strength versus hypertrophy programming and autoregulation with RPE and RIR
  • Evidence-based resistance training and the tools that make it practical
